Vision of humanity : Homicide

In last class, we discussed about global peace index.
I compare South Korea with Brazil about Homicide.

I know that Brazil is dangerous nation.
But, I don't think that Homicide rate of Brazil is very high.
I am more surprised that Homicide rate of Brazil is constantly very high from 2008 to 2015.

I find about Homicide rate of Brazil.
Last year, only 57,000 murders and fatal and injury cases occurred.
It say that Incidents took place  about 160 of the daily average.
Last year, The World Cup hold. So, Safeguard was increased in the nationwide because of increasing tourists.
However, the number of killings has increased by 4.8% compared to 2013.
Incidents by police officers was also increased 37.2% compared to 2013.
one of reasons of many murder in Brazil is perception of Brazilians.
For the Brazilians, This thinking "the bad guy is natural to dieis  a universal idea.
This rate of Homicide is surprising to me.
On the other hand,  South Korea is safety place.
Through this comparing , I am thankful because of living in South Korea.

Vision of humanity: Violent crime

I compared violent crime between Syria and South Korea.
Global peace index score of Syria is 3.645. And global peace index score of South Korea is 1.701.

The reason why Syria has the lowest global peace index score is due to the recent civil war in Syria, I suppose. In Syria, the clash between rebel fighters and President Bashar al-Assad has risen to the level of a civil war. Many people were killed and injured severely because of this incident.

South Korea is ranked 42 out of 162. I think that South Korea isn't a safe place from a war. Because North Korea has made more than 200 provocations. Also North Korea will continue its dangerous behavior. We must be preprared to counteract with hardball.

Vision of Humanity : Global Peace Index

Last class we compared global countries with global peace index.
I checked index of  'Security officers&police'

First of all, South Korea is peaceful than other countries. I think it is very reasonable because I guess Security officers&police means that public order or public peace. We have many 24-hour stores and detailed CCTV systems. And I think it is most important thing, we CANNOT bring gun! and if we are normal people, we cannot encounter Drugs. Also, our cities have many police station.
So, I think these things make South Korea peaceful.

However,
I was surprised at figure of Russia and France.

Till now, I know Russia is more ordinary and peaceful than France. But, it is a mistake. The reason why I think so is because I heard Russian do something strictly, meaning they observe the law very well. Also, when I was in France as a exchange students, French can touch Drugs very easily. and they have really small number of police station. At night, there are only dangerous people, no good people! French tend to ㅣlook down upon the Asian girl. Thus, I think France have to be more figure than other Europe countries such as Germany.

Functions of Political Parties in Democracy

Political parties are indispensable for the working of modern democratic governments. The importance of Political parties lies in the fact that democracies cannot function without the existence of political parties.

1. It makes the working of parliamentary government possible: A parliament consists of the representatives of the people. The political parties organize these representatives on party lines. The electorate chooses their representatives on the basis of their party affiliation. The party which gets the majority of votes forms the government and runs the state and the other parties in the legislature constitute the opposition and try to find fault with the government, thus making it more responsible. In the absence of political parties, the elected representatives may work at cross purposes just making the formation of a government or opposition an impossibility.
2. Political Parties formulate public policies: Each political party fights the election to achieve its objectives incorporated in their political manifesto. Soon after the election the majority party forming the government seeks to formulate its policies of administration on the basis of promises made in the election manifesto. Besides, each party has its own ideology. It is assured that the majority party gets the mandate of the electorate to implement its own political programme.
3. Political parties educate Public opinion: Parties in any system of government educate, formulate and organize public opinion. They also help in the growth of the level of political consciousness of common citizens, who otherwise have no time to peruse and study issues of the state. The political parties in their effort to come closer to the people organize public rallies, meetings, press conferences on important issues and make their views clear. This provides the common people with an opportunity to analyze the pros and cons of various important issues. This process leads to organize and formulate public opinion on important issues. The common people who otherwise have no time to devote to politics immensely benefit by these meetings etc. and understand different aspects of the basic issues involved in administration.
4. Political parties provide political stability: The political parties in more than one way unite, simplify and stabilized the political process of the country. The destabilizing forces of localism, section, interests and geographical situations are tackled by political parties by making these parts of their party ideology thus pacifying the disintegrating forces and inducing cohesion. The political parties mainly perform the functions of ‘aggregation of interests’. Besides the political parties in a representative democracy play a great role in maintaining the stability by performing their roles in the legislature. The majority party forms the government and the other small parties in the opposition. The party in power has to conduct itself very responsibly. Because any unwise move on their part would throw it off the power and help the opposition (parties) to take over the reins of administration. Opposition not merely criticizes the government; it also provides an alternative program and alternative government in the eventuality of any crisis in the government. As such it contributes to the stability of the government.
5. It helps in the recruitment of leaders: The essential function of any party is to recruit men of integrity, letters, action, leadership to its fold as members and prepare them for election in future. Because it is these members of party who propagate the party ideologies, discuss the burning issues and hold meetings and press conferences to mobilize public support. It is these leaders again who contest in the election and form government if elected to power. Such leaders being drawn from public life are expected to understand expectations of the common people and formulate public policies accordingly. Parties always get popularity and recognition though their leaders only.

Crime Level ‘Critical’ in Cambodia

This is the article of crime level in cambodia released by THE CAMBODIA DAILY. We can see crimes are so pervasive in Cambodia.

Sudden increase in violent crime over the past year has seen Cambodia receive a “critical” rating in a report outlining the potential dangers for U.S. Embassy staff operating in the country.
The Cambodia 2015 Crime and Safety Report, which was compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Diplomatic Security and released Wednesday, cited armed robberies, youth gangs and break-ins as some of the dangers facing U.S. diplomats.
“Violent crimes, especially armed robberies, continued to occur, while the chances of being a victim increase dramatically at night, daytime robberies are also very common. The frequency of armed robberies involving weapons continues at high levels,” the report says.
It stated that “random gunfire incidents” and road-rage-induced shoot-outs occurred frequently, while youth gangs “operate unimpeded” in Phnom Penh.
Embassy officials reported a rise in “snatch and grab” thefts, particularly when the victims are riding in tuk-tuks or on motorbikes.
“foreign diplomat had his smart phone stolen after being punched in the mouth. The perpetrator used brass knuckles and approached the victim as he was stopped on the side of the road,” the report says. It also mentioned the murder of Dutch U.N. consultant Daphna Beerdsen and her daughter in Phnom Penh last April.
U.S. officials were also told that they should avoid “dimly lit areas,” “socialize at reputable restaurants and bars” and avoid food that might contain illicit drugs.
“Embassy employees are prohibited from ordering food items from local restaurants that contain marijuana or other illicit ingredients, which are usually marketed under the term ‘happy,’” the report says.
Last year’s crime and safety report had a similar tone but contained no rating.

Violence in Cambodia

I searched on google what happens in cambodia these days related to violence.
As the result is, most violence or crime are heavily related with WOMEN.

'A 2013 UN report found that 22 percent of women in Cambodia have experienced physical or sexual domestic violence'.

Factors that contribute to violence in Cambodia may occur due to factors including "traditional beliefs, alcohol consumption, low levels of education, unemployment, socio-economic marginalization".

What is Cambodia’s current policy response for preventing domestic violence?
-The RGC has made several key policy statements about the importance of women in general, and about domestic violence in particular.

The RGC has made reducing all forms of violence against women and children a priority, and has passed a number of laws, ratified international treaties and introduced policies towards this end. However, while problems continue with the implementation of these policies, the underlying cause of much domestic violence, women’s inequality and vulnerability, will require a long-term commitment to address these issues.

Vision of humanity : Political instability

During the class, I was wondering figures about 'Political instabilities' in socialist states.
I was little confused when i saw the score what they have got. Because i just thought that China and North korea which are socialist states could be the most non-conflict countries to their government in the world. And that means they can have the most peaceful political stability.  People in those countries never get a chance to study or get learned about the 'Liberalism'. It's impossible to think another idea of rule their countries and impossible to criticize their government. This is how i thought. But China and North korea are classified as 'Less peaceful countries in Political instabilities'.
Site says that 'Political instabilities' assessment was conducted to figure out two things. It was "sufficiently stable to support the needs of its citizens, businesses and overseas investors". At the view of slight mixed with economic system in their countries, that score what they got is right. I interpreted at the view of the 'political system' to their people.
But I still got little confused with the term of 'Political instabilities'. I think Interpretations can have various results. It depends on which way do you want to read the meanings?
