First article, "What is Globalization?"

 We take a 'Sociology of Globalization' class, and debate about Globalization many times. Therefore we talk about 'World Value Survey', 'Religion', 'Economy' and so on. There are a lot of interesting things about Globalization. However, if we don't know about Globalization exactly, those things are of no use. This is why we read the article "What is Globalization?"  Globalization is relatively new academic agenda, so It is very difficult to definite Globalization by exact theory. However, this approach and trying are very desirable, it helps people to make sense about Globalization.

 The article is written about "Globalization" There are the concept of globalization, history, definition, example, comparison in this article. I summarize this article by four parts widely. First, we can divide globalization into two aspects, Increasing Global Connectivity" and "Increasing Global consciousness."(The Parameters of the general process of globalization) Secondly, Globalization can stipulate by three dimensions, 'the economic', 'the political' and 'the cultural.'(The Dimensions of globalization). Third, Modern society is not just global world but rather it is "Glocal world". We call it Glocalization. It means that it is getting harder and harder to disentangle the local from the global. Lastly, Globalization should be regarded as not a thing, but conceptual status.

 Most of all, 'Dimensions of Globalization' and 'McDonaldization' is the most interesting topic to me. I focused on this topic, and I studied about them. McDonald is one of the most famous hamburger franchise. It presents in over 118 countries, almost all over the world. Every store has the same menu, taste, and operation method. If you go any country and any store, you can always eat the very same hamburger. There are several features of McDonald. First, it is very efficient. They adopt the optimum method for making burger through a division of labor. Secondly, they use nonhuman technology for exert control. Third, they calculate every quantities and materials they sell. Therefore, they can predict every circumstance, and operate all the stores in the world. We call it 'McDonaldazation'. Many people said McDonaldazation is Globalization. However, we have to find out some adverse effect of McDonalazation. 'Standardization' is one of the them. Globalization make world uniform. They are losing the varieties and their own features. We can see this as a globalization in economic part.
