What is Globalization?(rewrite)

 

 

1) Summarize in your own words of materials you read

We need to analyze the Globalization through the two points. One is ‘general’. The other is ‘specific’. In the world, there are a number of disciplinary standpoints and worldviews. We have to think about the globalization with general perspective because the matter of variable topics is always related to the general frame. Also we should see the world more specifically. Globalization is consisted of many different topics such as governance, citizenship, human rights and migration. These variable topics are specific and distinctive. Thus, we have to know that globalization is general and specific.

Globalization has been proceeded in history and will be continued. Globalization is proceeded through some dimensions such as the cultural, the economic and the political. So we can variously define the meaning of the ‘Globalization’. From among these dimensions, ‘the cultural’ has been received attention recently because many nations concerned with economic globalization. ‘McDonaldizaion’(2000) that has been called by Ritzer is one form of the cultural concept. This form has caused the Homogeneity. Many nations had to increase their economic profit so they accepted the American culture. This phenomenon is staying now and many nations are similar in cultural, economic demension.

But, it is important that the four major demensions such as the cultural, the social, the political and the economic of globalization are equivalent. Furthermore, human perception and human culture are the most important thing in globalization so we don't have to ignore the human life.

The concept ‘Glocalization’ was appeared in 2004. This concept means that combination of two concepts. One is ‘globalization’. The other is ‘localization’. The concept of glocalization is the one way that explains the ramification of globalization. Globalization had an effect on our world and cause a strong shift in the direction of unicity.

We need to think about not the globalizaion itself but the implicit meaning of that. We are not just seeing the process of globalization. We should grasp the problems caused by the globalization and deal with them. Especially, the cultural globalization is needed perceptive analysis.

‘McDonaldization’ was very impressive and interesting. I have heard the term ago but I didn’t know details of it. McDonaldization not only provides an enormous profit based on rationality but also causes irrationality. As a result, it happens dehumanization phenomenon. I thought the characteristic of McDonaldization is similar to it of the bureaucracy.

The new word ‘Glocalization’ is so complicated but novel. I didn't know the concept before I read this article. I was surprised how the concept ‘globalization’ combines with the other concept ‘localization’. I think about ‘Appl’e and ‘Samsung’.  How did they become the global company? Maybe they have made use of the strategy-the concept ‘Glocalization’.

While reading this article, I found that ‘the cultural’ was an important demension of globalization recently. Culture homogeneity and culture fusion are the form of cultural globalization. There are many examples of the cultural globalization. Some contents such as blue jeans, coffee, soccer and hip-hop are included in homogeneity. Whereas some contents such as bulgogi pizza, bulgogi burger and wedding culture are included in fusion. I think this phenomenon is good origin of new culture and creative world.

 

However, I wonder that ‘Is it possible that the complete cultural globalization exists in the world?’ In the modern society, three concepts of cultural standardization such as Centralism of the self culture, cultural imperialism and cultural toadyism are likely to be an obstacle to cultural development. I concerned about culture standardization and extinction of traditional culture. Also, I think that the cultural globalization is useless for a developing country because power of advanced country is very strong.
